Accoya wood: what is it?

Accoya is the brand name of a type of sustainable softwood which has exceptional performance qualities and lifespan. We create a number of our windows, doors, conservatories and orangeries from this material here at Reddish Joinery.

Part of the incredible performance qualities of Accoya are created through the way that the wood is treated. The acetylation treatment process which Accoya wood is put through alters the cellular structure of the timber. This reduces its ability to absorb water by up to 80%, reducing the rate at which it rots and making it less attractive to pests such as insects and fungi.

This is due in part to the acetylation treatment process, which modifies timber cells, increasing the dimensional stability of the wood.
