Reduce, reuse, recycle!
We’re big believers in recycling here at Reddish Joinery. We endeavour to make sure that waste which can be recycled is recycled. Not only does it help save the environment, it also saves money and is less wasteful.
Most of an old window can actually be recycled fairly easily. Most windows are made of either uPVC, aluminium or timber. uPVC is a form of plastic that can be melted down and turned back into another product. Aluminium can be treated in the same way. Timber windows can be put through an industrial shredding machine and turned into woodchip, sawdust or even compost!
It’s been estimated that about 90% of a window can be recycled. When it’s so easy to recycle, it’s surprising that other installers don’t recycle their windows to the same standards that we do here at Reddish.
JWS Waste turning rubbish into energy
We work with waste recycling company JWS, to ensure that as much of our waste can be recycled as possible. At the JWS processing plant, waste is treated in a special production line that divides recyclable waste from non recyclable waste.
A sequence of conveyor belts, magnets and hand picking lines are used to classify waste in terms of materials, such as plastic and metals. This sorts out what can be recycled from what can’t. Anything that can’t be recycled is dehydrated, shredded and sent to the incinerator to provide Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF). This minimises the amount of waste that is sent to landfill, which is better for the environment.
